I was wondering if any one could help since I have an allergy to these drugs and want to know if I can partake in drinking energy drinks without adverse reactions.
A: you shouldn't
Q: What is the best allergy drugs? Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra, Singulair, or Benadryl?
What about Zicam and other nasal sprays for allergies? Do they work as well as the allergies pills?
A: Benadryl causes drowsiness but when used at bedtime will often ease symptoms. Allegra, Zyrtec, and Claritin are much less sedating and better for daytime use. Steroid nasal sprays are very useful. One over the counter nasal spray that often helps in Nasochrom.
Q: question on allergy tests and drugs?
alright so i have an allergy test on december 24 and the last time i smoked weed was december 14. theyre going to take my blood and i dont know what theyre going to do with it. will it show that ive smoked weed on the allergy test? its not a drug test so i know i dont have to pee. im just worried about the blood and everything. and oh yeah dont give me that lecture on not doing drugs. please.
A: A physician will not drug test you without your knowledge. It's not ethical. Anyway, allergists are looking for certain proteins in lab tests not marijuana. Don't be concerned at all, but I work with Dr's and they don't care if you tell them you do smoke pot as long as you don't have an addiction problem with it, then they are obligated to offer you advice on treatment options. Don't sweat it!!! Hope your tests help with your allergies.
Q: I WENT TO A DENTIST FOR FILLING MY TEETH.I GOT ALLERGY FOR DRUGS USED,I HAD A SWELLING ON MY FACE.WHY IS THAT?
A: Dentists often use mercury in the fillings. You may be having a reaction to this metal... or the dentist could have gouged you and caused an infection...
One way to get rid of the mercury is to take lots of vitamin c and eat cilantro in your food. It will leech out the mercury. Drink lots of water and in the future...ask for non-mercury fillings.
Q: My mom said I was allergic to sulfa drugs as a child so could I have outgrown this allergy?
My mom said she dosen't remember how old I was she found out I was allergic to sulfa drugs or even what my symtoms were.
A: You really don't want to take a chance by taking any sulfa medication. Reactions to medications can happen very quickly and can be life threatening. Your best bet is to stay away from any and all sulfa medications. Make sure that you always tell your medical care provider (whether the ER, quick care, or your private physician, etc.) that you are allergic to sulfa and let them know that it was as a child and your mom doesn't remember the type reaction you had.

Q: Allergy to drugs following 2 heart attacks, can anybody help.?
Following 2 heart attacks and an angioplasty whereby 2 stents where put in I was given a load of drugs and discharged from hospital.
Since taking these drugs I have had severe allergy reactions and have had the doctor round twice and also consulted with the cardiac ward duty doctor. Here are the following drugs I have been given and also symptons on taking these drugs.
Omeprazole 20mg 1 a day
Plavix Clopidogrel 75mg 1 a day
Cardicor B blocker 1 a day
Asprin 300mg to be reduced to 75mg after a month and thereafter.
Simvastatin 40mg 1 evening
I also have Parkinsons Diease and take Mirapexin 0.7 1 tablet 3 times daily.
The drug since getting these allergies is Ramipril 5mg and have been told to lay off this drug till allergery subsides and will be given alternative.
My symptoms at first were swelling of the stomach legs and ankles, a rash itchy all over, this has improved since coming off Ramipril but I have now got blistery spots all over my body please advise am really fed up
A: You really need to go back to your GP, who can prescribe an alternative. Take an antihistamine in the meantime to help with the itchy rash, and try some calamine lotion for the blisters.
Q: I need help with allergy problem. Bedides drugs like claritin and zyrtec, which are temporary, any other?
suggestions will be appreciated. I can not take benadryl because it make me sleepy.
A: You can get injections that help your body build immunity to the things you are allergic to. Weekly injections for a year or so. They helped me some.
There are theories that too much cleanliness aids in the development of allergies. I helped a friend build a barn and a house and during that 3 years there were no facilities for hand washing. I was out there eating dirt 5 days a week. Never washed our hands - even when cooking or eating. There were flies everywhere. My allergies are GONE. 5 years now - no allergies at all. I had allergies for 40 years - bad allergies Mar to November - or when ever the freeze occurred. Eating dirt seemed to cure my allergies. I think there is something to the cleanliness hypothesis.
Q: Is there anything other than drugs that can help relieve allergy symptoms?
A: you could change the air filters in your house-
buy an air purifier-
then buy that spray that kills or eliminates allergens in your house
wear a mask when vacuming and dusting
and clean out all your vents
if you have animals that come in and out make sure you wipe them off with a damp cloth to remove pollen or anything that could flare up allergies -
or buy an herbal mask - i have one for sinuses i pop it in the freezer and leave it there in a bag until ready for use get it out shake it up apply for fifteen or twenty minutes and bamn my sinuses are fine
Q: Which drugs to combat a cold are safe to combine?
Is it safe to combine allergy relief drugs with an expectorant and/or a cough suppressant?
A: First of all....nothing on the market with stop a cold..... You can take a cough suppressant but I suggest if you have a chesty moist cough, not to take it. The only way to draw the mucus out of the lungs is to cough, if you use a suppressant, it will take you a whole lot longer to et better and can actually make you worse. Take plenty of fluids and get plenty of rest and stay warm.
Hope you feel better soon.
Q: Can muscle cramps be a sign of a drug allergy?
Can muscle cramps be a sign of a drug allergy?
Thank you!
A: It depends on what the drug is. This can actually be a very serious side effect in certain drugs that are prescribed quite often. It can sometimes (depending on the drug) be a sign of atrophy of the muscle (wasting away of the muscle). So, depends on the drug, and I would inform your doctor of this in case it is a serious side effect and you might have to have your dosage adjusted, or be taken off of it completely. Bottom line, talk to your doc. :)
Q: Has anyone heard of a person developing a cat allergy due to cancer drugs? And what can be done about it?
A: Cancer drugs destroy your immune system as well as the cancer cells. I am sorry that you or a family member are having to deal with the cancer and now the stress of the pet (which should be a great comfort) possibly causing problems. Allergy is a defect in the immune system, you are usually born with it, but in this cause it has been induced by drugs. Kitty has a protein in the saliva and urine that gets spread about the fur and skin when kitty grooms or goes to the bathroom. This saliva-borne protein dries up and either flakes off on its own or comes off with the skin or fur. Either way it becomes airborne and inhaled. Then the body does not recognize this as kitty protein but as some form of alien invader. It stimulates the immune system and IgE gets produced and then you have an allergy attack. The good news is that because proteins are strings of amino acids, they lend themselves to the denaturing (neutralizing) process. There is a product called Allerpet/C that is specifically made to neutralize the cat protein. I will give you a link to their page so you can read all about it and find who sells it in the area. There is also another product called ADMS that you can spray around where the cat hangs out. I will give you a link to their page also. And finally, there is a special air cleaner to handle pet allergens and I will send that link as well. With some effort, there is no need to kick kitty out. I hope the treatment for the cancer is as successful as I know the treatment for cat allergen protein will be. Best of Luck.
Q: Can a breastfeeing baby have an allergy to penicillin prescribed to the mother?
I am taking augmentum for a breast infection. I have no allergy to penicillin drugs and neither does the father, but the grandfather is extremely allergic to penicillin. After the drugs finally started working to take care of the infection and high temp I was running, our otherwise very docile/calm baby has begun to be very fussy, cry and won't sleep. I was told the antibiotic would make her sleepy, but it is the exact opposite. she is cranky and inconsolable. Could she be reacting to the little amount of antibiotic passed to her through the breast milk?
A: Yes, it is possible. While it is considered safe to take penicillin while breastfeeding, your baby could still be allergic. I would recommend going to the doctor/NP ASAP to see if it really is an allergy, so you can get your prescription changed. You need to go soon because while using antibiotics to fight an infection you need to keep the dose constant and take the antibiotic until you have taken all of them. While it's not an emergency, getting to your primary care provider very soon would be best. And the question you're asking is certainly possible.
Congrats on the new baby!
Q: Real Doctors only please:how long does a drug based allergy take to show signs of allergy?
also how long for those signs todisappear and fully heal?
to clear up misunderstanding: drug based allergy is when a
person takes the drug but ends up being allergic to that drug
only doctors and professionals please.. dont say stuff like, it'll finish healing when it finish healing..that dont help
A: Firstly, not all drug allergies behave the same way. Nevertheless, I can generalise it into 2 different types.
Most drug allergies occur soon after ingestion of the drug, usually within a couple of hours. The usual symptoms are a generalised rash (or hives), swelling of the eyes and lips.
The other kind is an anaphylactic reaction. This is similar to what happens to people who are allergic to peanuts. usually nothing happens the first time you take the drug, but your body silently produces many antibodies against the drug. The second time you take the drug, this produces a rapid immune response that causes a rash, severe lip and eye swelling (angioedema), constriction of the bronchioles in the lungs and also swelling of the larynx that causes airway obstruction and is rapidly fatal. It also causes severe low blood pressure (shock).
How long it takes to recover depends on the severity. generally, with medication (antihistamines such as chlorpheniramine, hydroxyzine), minor cases will go away in a few hours. Severe cases need help urgently or will be fatal.
Q: What should I do for a drug allergy rash?
My daughter had a reaction to penicillin and was given "anti-hive" Claritin for it. She still has the rash/hives. How long should I wait to see results and for the hives to go away before I contact the doctor again? THANKS!
My daughter is 17yrs old. We DID discontinue the penicillin and doctor recommended the Claritin 2 days ago, but rash/hives are still apparent. Doctor didn't seem too concerned last time she was seen, but my daughter's discomfort level is high. Maybe a second opinion?
A: I was an army medic before attending school.
The primary concern with rash/hives when it happens with a medication is the danger of anaphalaxis. This allergic reaction can be fatal. If the Claritin doesn't work in 2 to 4 hours I would call the doctor again. He/she may reassure you that your child is ok, or might recommend a different med, or something else altogether. Trust your doctor above anyone (including me) on this site.
You don't give the age of your child, so it hard to know what else I would advise. You might call a pharmacist to see if your child can take an appropriate dose of Benedryl.
I am also unaware from your question as to whether the penicillin was discontinued, or if the Claritin is meant to go with the penicillin to help with the allergic problem.
At any rate, always call a doctor or pharmacist when in doubt about your child's health or safety regarding a medication.
Good luck to you and your daughter.
