Q: CLARITIN ??????????????
I TOOK CLARITIN AN HOUR AND A HALF AGO AND IT HASN'T WORKED. dOES THIS MEAN ITS NOT GONNA AND HOW LONG SHOULD IT BE BEFORE IT STARTS TO WORK?

A: They usually work for me within twenty minutes.. sounds like you may need to change anti histamines for a while. It seems that you can build up a tolerance for one brand and need to switch every now and again.

Q: How long does it take for claritin to leave the breastmilk?
How long does it take for claritin to leave the breastmilk? Im going to start breastfeeding, but want to take a claritin first for my allergies. How long should I wait? (hes on formula now).

A: There is really no need to expose baby to formula. You can continue to nurse while taking Claritin. "The ingredients of Claritin, Claritin-D, Allegra, Allegra-D, Actifed (the decongestant pseudoephedrine plus triprolidine) and Seldane have been approved by the AAP for use by nursing moms. Loratadine (Claritin) has been studied and the amount of loratadine that passes into breastmilk is extremely low" http://www.kellymom.com/health/meds/cold-remedy.html "Summary of Use during Lactation: Because of its lack of sedation and low milk levels, maternal use of loratadine would not be expected to cause any adverse effects in breastfed infants. Loratadine might have a negative effect on lactation, especially in combination with a sympathomimetic agent such as pseudoephedrine. Drug Levels: Maternal Levels. After a single oral dose of 40 mg of loratadine in 6 women, average peak milk levels of 29.2 mcg/L (range 20.4 to 39 mcg/L) occurred at 2 hours after the dose. In addition, average desloratadine peak milk levels of 16 mcg/L (range 9 to 29.6 mcg/L) occurred at 5.3 hours after the dose. The total amount excreted in milk over 48 hours was 11.7 mcg of loratadine and its metabolite. However, the dose administered was 4 times greater than the usual dose of the drug, so a total dose of about 3 mcg would be expected with a 10 mg dose. The calculated average and maximum expected doses of loratadine plus desloratadine in milk were 0.46 and 1.1% of the maternal weight-adjusted dose, respectively, after the 40 mg dose.[1]" http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/search/f?./temp/~4rCA7M:1

Q: What is the difference between Clarinex and Claritin?
I've been taking Zyrtec and it helps me but gets me sleepy; I took Claritin when it came out and after a while did not work too good. I suffer from high blood pressure, but controlled with meds can anyone tell me the difference.

A: The makers changed the formulation of Clarinex because they put Claritin over the counter (without prescription) Claritin contains 10 mg of Loratidine and the new formulation of Clarinex has 5 mg desloratidine. both work basically the same by inhibiting hystamine receptors so that your body does not release hystamine in response to alergens. Most insurance companies will not cover Clarinex without prior authorization due to failure of Claritin or loratidine product. Hope that helps.

Q: How long after starting Claritin before one should feel some results?
Bad case of allergies. Mostly the nose is involved. Just started Claritin OTC 3 days ago, and have'nt seen any benefit, thus far.

A: I used to take Claritin and it took a week for me to see results. It worked about 6 months for me and then stopped working altogether. Nasal sprays: Nasonex, Flonase, Astelin, Afrin, Zycam Eye drops: Decadron, Maxidex, Econopred, Patanol Pills: Tavist, Allegra, Zyrtec, Chlortrimeton, Singulair Hope this helps. Good luck!

Q: What is the recommended dose of claritin (loratadine) for a dog?
Pooch has skin allergies. I plan to try benadryl, but would rather use claritin due to its lack of a sedating effect.

A: I have the same problem with my dog. Whenever the allergies would flare up it would affect his ears and belly. I actually found that changing his food (he was on hypo-allergenic dog food) to a lamb and rice based food (instead of beef flavor) cleared up the reaction. Every once in a while I give him a benadryl if he has an exceptionally bad reaction. The dosage depends on the size, weight and the severity of the skin allergy. I'd call your Vet and ask them for dosage amounts.

Q: Does Zyrtec or Claritin work better as an allergy medicine?
I've been taking Claritin as needed for my springtime allergies. It works ok but they are really bad this year. Some people have recommended taking Zyrtec. Does it work better?

A: At one time I took Claritin when it was a prescription. I had taken it for years and it stopped working all together. I have always had eye allergies. I have numerous allergies, environmental, food, etc.... and after I tried Zyrtec it was fantastic. I love it and it helps my eyes tremendously. My kids also take it and I get the generic version and feel it works the same. I was so worried when it went over the counter cause I had tried the Claritin and it did not help. Either my allergies changed or the meds itself was different. Now I will also say that NO pill can keep me from a flare up and especially cat dander, dust, dust mites, etc.... but this is the best and have even tried to go back to prescription allegra and a couple other new ones and they still don't do what Zyrtec can do. And I am allergic/sensitive to lots of medicines out there also and that is why I cant take the D form of most meds cause it is way to strong and I end up vomiting. Hopefully you are not like myself and can take most meds without problems. Good Luck and Hope Zyrtec works for you as it does work for me and my kids.

Q: People who take claritin 24 hour reditabs, will it work any better if you take more than one every 24 hours?
I'm getting killed by allergies and I'm strongly thinking about changing brands. Unfortunately I have a bunch of claritin in my cabinet already and would like to make use of it somehow. YES, I know what the recommended dose is, obviously it's in the name of the product. But if you HAVE taken more than one tab in 24 hrs I'm just wondering if you found it more effective. Thanks!

A: claratin is not helpful at all. I tried it and it doesnt work. All my doctors said it was not effective for strong allergies. Zytrec and other medicines used to make me drowsy. but iwas prescribed singualr in it was effected in a week. ALso ask you doctor for nasal sprays they work more better too.

Q: How old do you need to be to buy Claritin Allergy Medicine?
Ok, I ran out of Claritin for my allergies and both my parents are at work and I need them now! I am thinking about going to Walgreens and buying some, but will I be allowed to get them? I have never bought medicine myself, so I don't know. Is there a certain age requirement?

A: Course...anyone can buy it! I do all the time! It is not like your buying a pregnancy test! Hope your allergies clear up!

Q: Whats the difference between Benadryll and Claritin?
I used to take 50 mg. (2 pills) Benadryll allergy relief for Allergic cojunctivitus every 6 hrs, now i bought Claritin and its one tiny pill of 10 mg for 24 hrs?? This doesent sound right

A: They both are antihistamines. The strength does not matter, in milligrams, unless you are comparing the same drug. The amount of benadryl is about equal to the dose in Claritin. The nice thing is that Claritin is a once a day pill, and causes less drowsiness, much safer to do things like driving. Claritin is also available as generic, much cheaper than name brand. Loratadine is the generic name. Good luck!

Q: How long before I am in contact with animals should I take Claritin?
I have a job where I work with cats and dogs I must go to at 9 in the morning. How long will it take for the Claritin to kick in and work?

A: Claritin can take 1-2 weeks to become fully effective when taken every day. However when taken often it becomes effective in 1-3 hours, so take it at least by 8 in the morning, if not earlier. Make sure to not take more than 1 dose is 24 hours as this can cause complications. If you are planning on taking it often (such as it sounds) talk to your doctor if you haven't already. Make sure he knows you are planning on using it for long-term use. The regular tablets may be taken with or without food. The rapid-dissolving tablets should be taken on an empty stomach. Water or other liquids are not necessary with the rapid-dissolving tablets as they will melt instantly on the tongue.

Q: What breed of dog is in the Claritin D commercial?
The Claritin D commercial where the lady is in the park I do believe, the dog is big black and white with long hair, the ears look like maybe it's mixed with Briard, or is this a full blooded breed? Thanks.

A: I don't think I've seen that commercial before but by your discription maybe it's a newfoundland? http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/919/95005911.JPG

Q: What breed of dog is featured in the Claritin-D commercial?
My mother saw a Claritin-D commercial with the school bus driver, and there's a person playing in the field with a dog, and she's absolutely in love with that dog. I haven't seen the commercial myself, but I don't know if it's a mixed breed or what. If anybody knows what breed(s) of dog this might be, let me know!

A: i think its a golden retriever but im not 100% sure.. i havnt seen the commercial in a long time

Q: Would it be harmful to take double the recommended dose of Claritin?
I use Claritin-D because regular Claritin just does not cut it for. My allergies are really bad and I am out. My roommate has regular Claritin and I'm not able to run to the drug store until tomorrow., so I'm borrowing hers. Would it be okay to take two of the regular Claritin since one doesn't do much for me?

A: You are probably responding more to the decongestant in Claritin D. This is pseudoephedrine, the active ingredient in Sudafed. Taking more of the Claritin will not make a difference if the Sudafed is the drug you are responding to.

Q: How long does it take for Zyrtec or Claritin to work?
I've been taking claritin for about a year now and it takes about 4 hours until most of my symptoms are gone. The Zyrtec commercial said their product works 2 HOURS FASTER! How long until zyrtec or claritin supposed to work?

A: zyertec 2 hours claritin 4 hours claritin lasts 14 hours zyertic lasts 18 hours

Q: Is it okay if I accidentally consumed two tablets of Claritin?
In the morning I took one tablet of Claritin, which contains 10 mg loratadine. Now, which is about fifteen hours later, I accidentally took another tablet, forgetting that I took one already in the morning. Is this okay? Are there any severe side effects that may come of this?

A: You should be fine. The most common side effect of any antihistamine (like Claritin) is sleepiness, and you may experience nausea, dry mouth and eyes, and overall feeling of being drained. 10mg is the normal dose for a 24 hour period, and you are more than halfway through that, so as long as you do not experience extreme difficulty breathing, or any other symptom that really scares you, you should be fine. With severe symptoms, call the doctor on call or go to the emergency room.
