Q: Could nasacort be causing my dizziness, puffy eyes and eye orbital pain?
I have been taking nasacort for several years for allergies. Recently, I developed puffy eyes, dizziness and fairly severe pain around my left eye. My docs don't know what is wrong. I had a CAT scan of sinuses - nothing is wrong. Any thoughts?
A: I found this description of side effects:
Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:
Less common or rare
Bad smell; blindness; bloody mucus or unexplained nosebleeds; blurred or gradual loss of vision; burning or stinging after use of spray or irritation inside nose (continuing); crusting, white patches, or sores inside nose; discharge or redness in eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid; eye pain; headache; hives; light-headedness or dizziness; loss of sense of taste or smell; muscle pain; nausea or vomiting; ringing in the ears; shortness of breath; skin rash; sore throat, cough, or hoarseness; stomach pains; stuffy, dry, or runny nose or watery eyes (continuing); swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; tightness in chest; troubled breathing; unusual tiredness or weakness; wheezing; white patches in throat
It might be a good idea to stop the nasocort for a few months to see what happens, and in the meantime and take someting like Claritin-D or Zyrtec-D instead.

Q: I went to my doctor for allergies and sinus trouble. Why did he put me on 2 nose sprays? Astelin & Nasacort? ?
Whats the difference and what are they supposed to do??? And My doctor also said I should find a bee keeper in my area to eat the honey and pollen off of the bee cage!! Have you ever heard such a thing???
A: I worked for a group of 130 doctors and have never heard anything about bees. Sounds a little dangerous to me! I've been prescribed one or the other, but not both at the same time. I'm sure your doctor has a reason, but I'm not sure why two steroids. I didn't like Astelin, it gave me bad headaches. If you're concerned, talk to your doctor, or find a new one.
Q: Is Nasacort Aqua nasal spray safe for my 7 year old?

Q: Which nose spray is better for allergies? Nasacort or Astelin?
I also have bad sinuses too. I seem to get sick all the time with cough sore throat etc.....which one would be more helpful?
Thanks!
My doctor has free samples to give me...Just seeing which one works best.
A: There is no easy answer to this question. First of all, Nasacort and Astelin work differently. Nasacort and Flonase, are both steroid sprays. They work by decreasing inflammation in the sinus passages. Astelin is an antihistamine. The over the counter sprays, such as the ones from dollar general, should only be used for a maximum of three days. They open your passages well but with continued use you get a "rebound" effect and then you will need to continue to use them, basically they are addictive. As far as the first options go, it is trial and error. What works for one, may not work as well for another. Ask you doctor which one he/she recommends and start there. If it doesn't work well for you, your doctor will probably try you on another. Of note, these medications usually have to be used for a couple of weeks before maximum benefits are achieved.
Q: Is Nasacort AQ effective in treating itching on the body in places other than the nose/head/face area?
A: Nasacort and other nasal steroids do not have significant absorption into the bloodstream and thus wouldnt be useful for treating symptoms other than in the nose.
Q: Allergic Rhinitis and Nasacort?
Hello!
Does anyone know if Nasacort can help clear up mucus in a throat? One of my nostrils is not breathing as well. My doctor prescribed me some spray called "Patanase" but it's not covered by my insurance. Do you think Nasacort can help?
Thank you!
A: Nasacort may help. Keep in mind that these two medications operate in two very different ways. Nasacort is a steroid, which can cause a host of problems, including increased nasal bleeding and headaches.
Patanase was recently approved by the FDA as part of the third generation of antihistamines, called H1 receptor antagonists.
If you combine over-the-counter generic Claratin or Zyrtec with Nasacort, you may acheive similar relief as Patanase.

A: Tell your doctor. My son had the same problem with it. Maybe he can give you something else to try.
Q: I have post nasel drip. Constantly clearing my throat. Doc - Rx "Nasacort 6.5gms. What else wd wk with it?
Doctor recommended the Nasacort and also saline 3 times a day. However my pharmasist suggest I also use something like Sudafed - Sinus&Allegery.
Suggestions please. Should I use both?
A: Post-nasal drip can be a very irritating and persistent problem for patients. Patients often have a stuffy or runny nose and complain about symptoms of mucus dripping down the back of their throat. It can be caused by several factors, including allergies, chemical irritants, and infections.
Nasal steroids (such as Nasocort) help by reducing the allergic response. Nasal saline helps thin the mucus, making it easier to cough out. Your doctor might also prescribed nasal ipratropium, which helps reduce nasal secretions. Both nasal steroids and ipratropium take 2-3 days before they start to work.
You can try some non-prescription medications. In general, I caution against using combination drugs, such as Sudafed Sinus & Allergy. This contains pseudephedrine and diphenhydramine (Benadryl). Pseudephedrine works by shrinking nasal blood vessels, thus reducing nasal discharge. However, it can cause high blood pressure, anxiety, palpipations, and other symptoms. Instead, try a few days of an antihistamine such as Benadryl. The major side effect is drowsiness. If this is a problem, you might try a second-generation antihistamine such as loratidine (Claritin), but these often don't work as well.
Last, try and figure out the cause of your post-nasal drip. Common triggers include dust mites, pollen, and pets. Clean your bedroom well and wash your sheets in hot water. Keep pets out of the bedroom (if possible).
Q: is nasacort or flonase safe during late pregnancy?
My sinuses are killing me!! and I need to stop using afrin. and I have some nasacort, but don't know if it's safe since it is a steroid.
A: Ask your OBGYN to be sure... Just a telephone call to the office. I hope that you can.
Q: Does Nasacort Aq nasal spray cause weight gain? Everyday I am gaining a lb or two which is abnormal for me.?
It is not pms, because my period was done 2 weeks ago. I havent changed my eating habits either. But I read online that is doesnt cause weight gain
A: When I started on nasal corticosteroids the dr swore up and down I wouldn't gain weight. I did. I got off of it and quit gaining. Maybe we are those percents of a percent they talk about.
Q: Nasacort! I woke up shaking, feeling very hot and naucious last night after sleeping for an hour.?
My room was cool and i wasnt under heavy blankets, and i wasnt sweating. i had taken my Nasacort AQ nasal spray at 10:30 and woke up nausious with the chills at 11:45. this progressed to the strangest headache and i felt super hot but my temperature was very normal and my parents said i felt fine. but it felt like a sorta sinus headache and my temples were burning on the inside of my head. after 35-45 min the chills went away and so did the nausea, but the burning inside my head and the sinus-like headache remained on and off and i finally fell back asleep by 2:30. i woke up this morning with a headache.....what happened?? this didnt happen when i was taking the Nasacort a few weeks ago
what happened to me??? i was soooo soooo sooo scared
i dont suffer from migraines, can we take into consideration that i might have some sort of sinus problem that is undiagnosed? ive had 2 sinus infections since sept, and more headaches than i ever had....if i used to get like 7-8 a year, now i get like 4-5 a month....and some of them are regular headaches, others are sinus headaches.
A: It seems unlikely that Nasacort caused this. I went through the prescribing information for it, and there are no side effects mentioned such as the ones you experienced. Most of the time, people who have any adverse reaction at all may have a slightly clogged nose for a few mintues; some people also get a slight "raw" feeling in the throat from time to time, but certainly nothing like nausea or the headache or odd temperature sensations you report.
One thing you should be clear about when taking Nasacort, Nasonex, Flonase, or any similar topical corticosteroid is that it should be used EVERY DAY, regardless of whether or not you are experiencing symptoms. If it's working properly, it is almost as though your allergies have simply evaporated. The reasons for that are a little complex to go into here, but that's how most people feel who use these products.
Given your nausea and the chills you experiened, I would have to ask if you are subject to migraine headaches, or cluster headaches. Nausea is a common complaint with migraines. In any case, if the problem continues, you should see your doctor.
Q: I been taking Zyrtec (10MG) and Nasacort spray's both prescribed for seasonal allergies?
For the past 2 weeks, it feels like its NOT working anymore. I'm waking up all "stuffed up", and then, I start draining and can't stop sneezing all day.
Any ideas? Should I call my doctor and have him switch my allergy meds?
Could it be a cold or not allergies? I know rag weed and polen are high right now
A: if you have seasonal allergies, you should get off the medication-this stuff will dry up your body- and start taking LOCAL honey. Local honey will work with your body to help develop immunities to all the air born irritants around you-this includes pollen, dust, mold, car exhaust, pet dander and anything else that's floating around you. Nose sprays will dry up the sinus cavities, causing cracks and lead to infections. Look at the warnings on the package of your allergy med-dehydration is a danger to your internal organs. Kidneys will begin to deteriorate slowly until you have a big problem and its too late. Local honey has no side effects and is 100% natural. Like all herbal remedies, it will take a while to work but by the winter you will experience fewer cold and flu symptoms and find that you are overall, more healthy.
