Q: Does the medication Diovan have the same ingredients in it as the medication Ativan?
The reason that I am asking this question is because I can I cannot use "Ativan" as I have a chemical sensitivity to "Ativan" and it seems when I use Diovan I get headaches almost to the point of migraines and this leaves me to wonder if Diovan has the some of the same compound ingredients as "Ativan" If anyone can help me would be appreciated - thanks.

A: Diovan (valsartan) is an antihypertensive. Seems to me your medication doseage may be wrong, and your blood pressure may be dropping too low (this would cause the headache, as well as dizziness if you have it). The question may be if you are taking any other anti-hypertensives thereby again making the doseage too much for your body. Speak with your doctor regarding your symptoms when taking this medication. He/She needs to watch your blood pressure for starters...

Q: What is the difference between Avalide and Diovan?
My insurance will only pay for Diovan, yet the doctor prescribed Avalide. What is the difference?

A: They are both Cardio products Avalide is Irbesartan + Hydrochlorothiazide while Diovan is Valsartan Both are A2rBs or angiotensin II receptor blockers (drugs usually ending in "sartans") The doctors are usually updated on the latest therapy in dealing with heart diseases in which the trend nowadays is using A2rBs in combination with diuretics like Hydrochlorothiazide. Tell your doctor you are considering that your insurance pay for Diovan to give you a new course of therapy since both of them A2rBs.

Q: I have problems with dizziness after taking Diovan. How much is this reported as a side effect?
I cannot walk but a few steps because of dizziness without stopping to hold onto something. I think the Diovan is causing this dizziness.

A: Nervous system side effects have been dose-related and have reportedly been the most common reasons for discontinuation of therapy. Headaches and dizziness have been reported in 8% to 10% and 3% to 14% of patients, respectively, depending on dose. Dose-related orthostatic effects, including dizziness, were observed in 8% of patients who received 320 mg compared with 2% to 4% of patients who received 10 to 60 mg. Other related side effects include vertigo in less than 1% of patients. I think that with the amount of dizziness and unsteadiness you are experiencing that you NEED to go back and talk to your doctor. Sometimes the dizziness can be transient and wear off as soon as you get used to the drug--but in other cases, this side effect can cause long term issues for your safety. Talk to your doctor.

Q: What is the best way to transition from Diovan HCT 80/15 mg to Labetalol for pregnancy?
I currently take Diovan and have to move to Labetalol.

A: i dont really gat your question,sorry

Q: Is it okay to mix Diovan and Methyldopa?
I took a Diovan at 10:30 pm and just took a Methyldopa at 1am. 'cause my blood pressure was still very high, is this okay? Thanks!

A: You should have called your pharmacist before taking them. I would advise you call him/her anyway for future use.

Q: I need to get off of Diovan and was told to try Ramipril, or Lisinopril, or enalapril Maleate?
Has anyone else switched from Diovan to a generic and what are you taking? How do you like it?

A: You did not say why you needed to switch, my guess is you want a cheaper drug. (Beta blockers/diuretic combinations are also cheap, and also proven effective, but your doctor would have to evaluate if it would be right for you.) Diovan does not have the exact same effects as the ACE inhibitors you mention. I never did like those diovan like drugs (AT1 receptor blockers). Since diovan causes a rise in renin and angiotensin(explained in links below) you might consider starting the ACE inhibitor before dropping the Diovan, otherwise a spike in blood pressure might occur. I have not read of any approved procedure to make the switch. Of the three mentioned I would chose lisinopril, as it is an active drug as is, the other two drugs depend the liver to make into the active drug. http://www.merck.com/media/mmpe/pdf/Table_071-8.pdf?qt=lisinopril&alt=sh http://www.merck.com/mmpe/sec07/ch071/ch071a.html http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2009/021283s027lbl.pdf

Q: Has anyone taken Diovan 320mg for control of blood pressure, and did you have any side effects?
I started taking Diovan 320mg this morning for my blood pressure. Has anyone had any experience with this medication, and any side effects or issues that you can recall having. Please list any positive experiences as well.

A: It has done wonders for my blood pressure and also my heart, the dizziness will go away eventually. You must have really high blood pressure though, cause im on 160 mgs and mine was pretty high. Its a fabulous med for the heart as well.

Q: Is Diovan a good high blood pressure medication?
I know of a person who was taking Diovan and the doctor kept increasing the dose until he had her at the maximum dose. Still her blood pressure was high. So the doctor added doxazosin and her blood pressure came down. My friend said the Diovan made her feel weak so she quit taking it and the doxazosin seems to be keeping the blood pressure down by itself. Does Diovan do anything?

A: You have to love people who answer when they have no idea what they're talking about... It is a good med. Not all meds for high BP work well for every patient. Never stop taking a BP med without consulting your doctor.

Q: Can you get high from Diovan or Crestor?
Im not sure and I dont really want to experiment with it. I smoked all my trees and I need something til I get some more and all I can find in my house is Diovan and Crestor.

A: no but you can get lower blood pressure and cholesterol. Go to the store and get the silk off of ears of corn and smoke it, I hear northerners say its great. Stop using drugs and get a life. Either that or freaking prepare so you don't run out.

Q: will taking diovan daily cause constipation in the long run?
Will taking diovan ( high blood pressure medicine) daily cause consyipation in the long run? Can someone (anyone) help me?

A: I too once took diovan/HCZT, and I never noticed constipation. I take something different now since my new insurance would only pay less than half. I now get my BP meds for $4.00

Q: I take Diovan and Attenalol and wondered if eating grapefruits is okay to do?

A: Grapefruit effects the cyp3A4 metabolism in the liver. The concombinant use of grapefruit and some drugs may effect the concentrations of drugs in your body. You should call your pharmacist and discuss this potential interaction immediately.

Q: Please help. I need to switch to a generic from Diovan for BP but need to know someone that has made the?
switch with success and what you are now taking without side effects. No generic for Diovan in USA. Avery jane- your information isn't much help if ARB and ACE are causing problems. What they don't tell you is that they cause rash, flatulance, and in some cases fecal leakage and if you go off blood pressure increases immediately.

A: Diovan is called an ARB, or angiotensin receptor blocker. It works on blood pressure and kidney protection. ARBs are newer forms of an older class of drugs called ACE inhibitors. Angiotensin converting enzyme (enalapril, lisinopril). ACEs are more likely to produce a cough, but work similarly for BP. As you mentioned no ARBs are generic in the US yet. The good news is some ACEs are on the $4 list.

Q: What would be a lethal dose of Diovan?
My dad takes these for his BP and he usually takes more than the prescriped dose, so I was just wondering.

A: A lot, if it is even fatal - but it probably is if you take enough everything is if you take too much, even water. But from what I read it is not known what the lethal dose is. They have studies doses of up to 1000mg/kg in rat and 2000mg/kg in other mammal with no fatalities. and that is a VERY high dose. But what ever you pop gets in his bottle per month, wouldn't kill him, even if he saved up for YEARS without taking them!

Q: Has anyone switched from Diovan 80 mg to a generic that worked the same?
I know Diovan is not in a generic, so what other drug would be the same.

A: Diovan is in the family of drugs know as the Sartan drugs or an angiotensin II receptor Blocker. As for other drugs in this class - Atacand - Avapro - Benicar - Cozaar -Micardis -Tevetan Unfortunately None of the drugs in this class are available as a generic as of yet. How ever a drug class that is very similar to this class the ACE inhibitors has a number of generic drugs available. This class of medications usually are more effective that the Ag II inhibitors however, their is one side effect that does bother some people enough that they will be switched to a Ag II inhibitors. The cough is a dry non-productive cough. Drugs in this class available as generic include: - Quinapril - Lisinopril - Captopril - Enalapril - Benasapril - Fosinopril I hope this info helps

Q: Is it ok to chew the high blood pressure medicine Diovan or Diovan HCT ?
Have difficulty swallowing whole pill.

A: It'll likely taste like crap. Try the old hospital trick. Crush the pills and mix into some applesauce. Easy to swallow, better taste.
