Q: Is it safe to take creatine while taking hyzaar ?
I take hyzaar for high blood pressure.( it's not real high, just alittle) I workout 5 days a week. Is it safe to take creatine after a workout if I'm also taking hyzaar ?

A: My best advice anytime you want to combine medicine is to always talk to the doctor that prescribed your medicine even when it is natural supplements and herbs. There are so many interactions pertaining to medication, it's better not to take the chance. Just give your doctor a phone call. Some doctor's offices will have the nurse or medical assistant call you back but I highly recommend that you talk to the physician yourself.

Q: Is there a difference between Cozaar comp and Hyzaar?
So my dad wants to buy some blood pressure meds online because here in Ireland they are overpriced. On the drug website It said Hyzaar which had the same chemicals in it as Cozaar comp, It's the same measurements aswell (50mg/12.5mg). Is it safe to buy them? Will it make a difference to Cozaar comp? Thanks.

A: they're the same. both contain hydrochlorothiazide to lower blood pressure and losartan, another medicine to lower blood pressure. as long as the doses of each ingredient is the same, then it's the same pill. the reason it has two different brand names is because two different companies make it.

Q: Has anyone been taking Hyzaar for High Blood Pressure and had side effects from it?
I have been taking Hyzaar for years now and recently have had terrible leg pain and leg cramps in my calves and knee pain. I was reading about this medicine and found that it can also cause depression and anxiety. Has anyone had any of these problems with this medicine?

A: Hyzaar, generic name Losartan potassium-hydrochlorothiazide has been evaluated for safety in 858 patients treated for essential hypertension and 3889 patients treated for hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy. In clinical trials with losartan potassium-hydrochlorothiazide, no adverse experiences peculiar to this combination have been observed. Adverse experiences have been limited to those that were reported previously with losartan potassium and/or hydrochlorothiazide. The overall incidence of adverse experiences reported with the combination was comparable to placebo. In general, treatment with losartan potassium-hydrochlorothiazide was well tolerated. For the most part, adverse experiences have been mild and transient in nature and have not required discontinuation of therapy. In controlled clinical trials, discontinuation of therapy due to clinical adverse experiences was required in only 2.8% and 2.3% of patients treated with the combination and placebo, respectively. The following adverse events were also reported at a rate of 1% or greater, but were as, or more, common in the placebo group in studies of essential hypertension: asthenia/fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, headache, bronchitis, pharyngitis. Adverse events occurred at about the same rates in men and women. Adverse events were somewhat more frequent in the elderly compared to non-elderly patients and somewhat more frequent in Blacks compared to non-Blacks for both the losartan-hydrochlorothiazide and the control groups.A patient with known hypersensitivity to aspirin and penicillin, when treated with losartan potassium, was withdrawn from study due to swelling of the lips and eyelids and facial rash, reported as angioedema, which returned to normal 5 days after therapy was discontinued. Superficial peeling of palms and hemolysis were reported in one subject treated with losartan potassium. Other adverse experiences that have been reported with losartan, without regard to causality, are listed below: Musculoskeletal: arm pain, arthralgia, arthritis, fibromyalgia, hip pain, joint swelling, knee pain, leg pain, muscle cramps, muscle weakness, musculoskeletal pain, myalgia, shoulder pain, stiffness;

Q: How does the antihypertensive drug Hyzaar work?

A: Hyzaar is a combination of 2 drugs: hydrochlorothiazide and losartan. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention. Losartan is in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Losartan keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure improves blood flow. The combination of hydrochlorothiazide and losartan is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and to reduce the risk of stroke in people with hypertension.

Q: what are the hyzaar side effects?
i have been taking hyzaar for just over a year, and recently i have felt pain in my right leg and right knee and ankle. anyone have any ideas?

A: Joint pain is not listed as a side effect of Hyzaar and since you just recently started having these symptoms after taking the drug for over a year and since your pain is localized to only your right leg, it's not likely the cause. Most patients experience adverse effects shortly after starting a medication, however, some medications do have side effects with long term use. Here are some of the side effects associated with Hyzaar: angioedema(inflammation of blood vessels leading to swelling in tissues), hypotension (low blood pressure), electrolyte imbalances, liver damage, pancreatitis, thrombocytopenia(low platelets), rashes, fetal harm, rhabdomyolysis(muscle damage/breakdown), kidney dysfunction, dizziness, cough, back pain, nausea, heartburn, & chest pain.

Q: Atenolol, Tricor, Hyzaar 100/25, Metformin and Chantix. Are these ok to mix with each other?
The atenolol is for my heart, Tricor is for my triglycerides. Hyzaar for my blood pressure, Metformin for my diabetes and the Chantix is so I can quit smoking. I'm wondering if they have adverse reactions with one another.

A: Tell your doctor about all your other medicines including prescription and nonprescription medicines, especially if you take: - insulin - asthma medicines - blood thinners http://www.quitsmokinghope.com/chantix/chantix-with-medicines.htm

Q: Are there generics for tricor and hyzaar if so what are they?

A: Unfortunately no, there is not a generic for Hyzaar. However, Hyzaar is a combination of Losartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. Of the two, Hydrochlorothyazide has a generic. Losartan does not. If you want a less expensive non-brand medication, talk to your pharmacist and they can make a few recommendations. As for Tricor, it does have a generic, called Fenofibrate.

Q: What is a normal dose of Hyzaar?

Q: When will there be a generic for hyzaar?

A: John, there is already generic hyzaar available on the market of UK, but do not think it will be available in the U.S. any soon, see here, http://www.pharmacynextdoor.com/buy_hyzaar_without_prescription.html I love hyzaar, It brought my b.p. down from 140-100 to 135-85 with no side effects worth mentioning. I feel much more energetic and less depressed then when I was on selokene, so it works for me.

Q: Blood pressure medicine? How long does it take for it to begin working? (specifically the medicine Hyzaar)?

A: In just a few days, if the medicine the Dr put you on is right for your body.

Q: can I safely cut a 100 hyzaar in half to take my new dosage of 50/12 1/2 ?

A: You can only.. and I mean only... cut a pill in half to get a half dosage if the pill is scored down the middle. If it is not scored you cannot divide and be assured you have the correct dosage. You could have too little or too much. The score down the middle of the pill will be obvious and the pill will be fairly easy to break with your hands.
