Q: What time of the day or night should I take my Norvasc tablet (5 mg) for maintainenance of blood pressure?
I am taking Norvasc 5mg tablet for blood pressure maintenance. What time of the day or night should I take it? I am presently taking this medicine before going to bed at night but a friend told me to take it in the morning as this prevents the blood pressure from rising when doing stressful work.
A: I advise my patients to take this drug at the time that they are most apt to remember to do so. It really works well for 24 hours (not all drug delivery systems work as well as this one) and you should be fine no matter when you take your Norvasc. Just so you remember to get it on board!
Q: Whats the chance I will have an allergic reaction to Norvasc after having a reaction to Prinivil?
Im 44 in good heath but overweight. I take meds for asthma. My blood pressure creeped up and my doctor prescribed Prinivil 10mg and I opted for the Generic Lisinopril. A week after starting the medication strange things began to happen.
First the irritating cough, which I found was normal. Then my right hand/fingers went numb almost on a rotating cycle. Then the dizziness and disorientation two hours after taking the drug. I was always totally wiped out , never hungry and always nervous and sweating. Finally after 2 weeks of this I woke up one night because my face was twitching uncontrollably. My tongue and lips were swollen and my throat so tight I could only whisper.
I spent 3 days in the ICU from the allergic reaction. So my doc has started me on Norvasc. What’s the chance this will happen again. IM SCARED! REALLY SCARED!
A: You're a wreck

Q: What are the dangers of taking the medication Flamar capsules and Norvasc for life ?
FLAMAR capsules for back pain and NORVASC for blood pressure
A: The long term use of Celecoxib (Flamar) is problematical, and the drug, and all those in the group, are no longer used routinely. As the cardiovascular risks of celecoxib may increase with dose and duration of exposure, the shortest duration possible and the lowest effective daily dose should be used.
amlodipine besylate (Norvasc) has no long term implications and can be taken indefinitely.
Q: Has anyone ever Breastfeed while taking Aldomet (methyldopa) and Norvasc?
I'm on medicine for hypertension and glyburide for gestational diabates. I really would like to breast-feed. But will it be okay. My doc said it'll be fine and he's going to stop the glyburide as soon as I deliver. But has anyone every breast-feed on the aldomet and norvasc. Please let me know. Thanks.
A: Each doctor has different recommendations of what they say is okay. My doctors said no meds at all. I have a nerve condition, asthma, and go without treatment just so I can breastfeed. Its a huge sacrifice but worth it. I don't think I could live with myself if I took a chance with my baby's health.

I was put on them when I was in the Phsyciatric Ward and I think my blood pressure was up because of where I was. So I am getting to the end of the meds. Any effects from just stopping?
A: these are for high blood pressure, do not stop taking them, see the doctor before you do. i think you will need them forever, sure if you stop taking them your bp will go back up and you could have a stroke.
Q: is the combination of norvasc 10mg am and athenol lunch and simvastation zocor 20mg a good combination?
what's the medicine for the heart, and what is for high blood pressure? doesn't those drug cause liver failure?
A: Norvasc can be used for either the heart or high blood pressure. It can be taken without regard to meals. It has been shown to cause jaundice, hepatitis and elevated transaminases in <1% of patients. Norvasc is metabolized to an inactive form by the liver for removal from the body. Atenolol can also be used for either the heart or high blood pressure and can also be taken without regard to meals. It has been shown to increase liver enzyme levels in <1% of patients. The liver plays a very minimal role in eliminating the drug from the body. Norvasc and atenolol have different mechanisms of action so it is not uncommon for patients to take both medications under the supervision of a physician. Zocor is for high cholesterol. It can be taken without regard to meals but some doctors tell patients to take it at bedtime. This is because the body makes most of the cholesterol at night and other medications in the same drug class work better when taken at bedtime. Adverse effects related to the liver occur in <1% of patients and include cholestatic jaundice, hepatic necrosis and hepatitis. The liver is the primary pathway for eliminating the drug from the body.
