Q: How long will it take for sexual side effects to subside after discontinuing Lexapro (Escitalopram)?
I have been taking 10 mg of Lexapro (Escitalopram) daily for less than two weeks. I consulted my doctor and we decided that I would stop taking the drug, mainly due to sexual side effects. How long do you think it will take for my libido to return to normal?
I would also like to add that I am male.
A: It took about two weeks for that side effect to subside when I lowered my dose of lexapro. I imagine it'd take a similar amount for you too.
Q: What is the equivalent dose from citalopram that subtitute 10mg escitalopram?
I ask the question because the escitalopram is improper for me(exspensive and other considerations!!) so I want to switch to citalopram so what is the equivalent dose from citalopram that subtitute 10mg escitalopram?
A: was the brand name of escitalopram Lexipro? If yes you need 20 mg. of citalopram to equal that of escitalopram. You need to check with a Dr. however before you self medicate.. hope this helps.
Q: citalopram and escitalopram which one is better?
I am planning to go on SSRI's and I want to start with citalopram or escitalopram, which one should I go for any why or is it up to my GP which one I go on?
A: OK, firstly, it is not up to you to decide that you want to go on antidepressants, or to choose which one you go on. Your GP needs to first determine that you actually HAVE depression, and that it requires treatment with antidepressants rather than with some kind of talk therapy. IF your GP thinks that you need to be on medication, then they will decide which one to prescribe.
By the way, escitalopram is just the active isomer of citalopram, and so there is no difference in efficiency, the only difference is that escitalopram is twice the strength of citalopram and is therefore given in lower doses. But it's also a lot more expensive than citalopram and has no real advantage over it, so not many GPs will prescribe it.
Q: Why does it say you have to take Escitalopram for at least 6 months?
I'm taking Escitalopram, the dr prescribed first 10mg, and this time 15mg. It was for anxiety.
And why does it say in the box, you should take it at least for 6 months?
A: Don't know why it would say 6 months... could it be that it says 6 weeks? Typically, this class of drugs (SSRI's) doesn't have visible effects until about 6-8 weeks after starting...
Q: How many grams of escitalopram (Lexapro\Cipralex) would kill a 17-year-old, severely-underweight girl?
I'm not going to commit suicide. This is for a novel.
A: Lexapro is very safe in overdose, the tricyclic antidepressants are much more dangerous.
Q: How long does Lexapro (Escitalopram) take to leave the body?
Just out of curiosity, for a person on a ten milligram dose how long does it stay in the body? For example, I haven't taken my dose yet today. Would some of the drug still be in my blood stream or anything like that?
A: The elimination half-life of Lexapro (escitalopram) is about 30 hours.
To answer your first question, it will take about 300 hours or 12.5 days for the remaining amount of drug to be deemed insignificant.
There is still plenty of drug left in your body at this time, but don't skip a dose because of that. Take it as directed.
Q: Can i take modafinil and escitalopram together?
I use escitalopram for depression but i feel sleepy so is it dangerous to take modafinil with it? i'm a student i don't have so much time to sleep but i sleep nearly 12 hours on these days.
A: Never mix your medication without consulting your doctor about first. Each person is different and not everyone has the same reaction to different types of medications. The best advice that I can give you is to talk to your doctor about it or you could ask your local pharmacist.
Q: what is common between escitalopram oxilate and fluoxetine?
what is the difference between them .which is used for compulsive behaviour disorder.and why.
A: Lexapro and Prozac are both SSRI's - that's selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. They both allow extra time for your brain's receptor cells to be able to pick up serotonin which is a neurotransmitter that is thought to carry signals of contentment/happiness. They do this by slowing the reuptake of these neurotransmitters, giving your receptors time before they are "vacuumed" and recycled.
That is the commonality. Lexapro has less of a side effect on weight gain, but is not as often prescribed for OCD. Prozac has a much better track record for OCD, but some people report weight gain or sleepiness on it.
Q: What happens when a person who is not depressed takes an antidepressant such as escitalopram?
I think i confused ppl with my earlier statement- what Im trying to say is I have been prescribed the drug- but Im not sure I really need it. I feel better with it ...but I was just wondering if I was not depressed and still took the drug would I still feel better. i.e.- am I really depressed!!!!
sorry abt the confusion- i do not take it to get 'high'
Thanks for your answers guys.
A: it will have absalutley no effect as it usually takes 14-30 days of an antidepressant to kick in and then all it does is help depression. It is not a drug that will get you high
Q: What were your experiences with escitalopram?
I've been told it's an isomer of Citalopram, which I used to take at one point, but that's all I know about it. What makes it different/any better? And most importantly, did it make you drowsy? Because I'm sick of being prescribed stuff that makes me practically comatose ...
Thanks.
A: It did not make me drowsy. It was the best drug I've ever taken. I have not personally taken citalopram, but I know there shouldn't be much difference between the two drugs. Escitalopram got put on the market because the drug makers wanted more money, not because it was any better than citalopram. Of course I may be wrong, sometimes isomers are significantly different in their effects.
Q: What is the effect of the tablet Escitalopram oxalate?
Why is it given to the patients?
A: The brand name for this product is Lexapro and it is generally used for depression, but can also be used for a host of other things, including anxiety disorders. It falls into the category of SSRI (Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitor)
Q: When I drink too much alcohol I start to shake, is this down to my medication Escitalopram? I take 10mg a day?
No it doesnt. x
A: It could well be, citalopram is a SSRI anti-depressant, alcohol can potententate (increase) its effects. Plus alcohol is a CNS depressant, so you are contradicting your medication. Best advice is to cut out the alcohol, you should be on the medication for at least six months to a year.
Q: I heard there is not a generic lexapro out yet, but escitalopram is the name of a so called generic lexapro?
I HEARD THERE IS NOT A GENERIC FOR LEXAPRO YET,BUT IT IS ALSO SAID THAT ESCITALOPRAM IS THE GENERIC FOR IT. WHICH IS TRUE?
A: Escitalopram is the chemical name for Lexapro. When a generic is finally made, it will be called by the chemical name.
Q: Deprsession in a 15 year old - Escitalopram or Citalopram?
I have already heard what the psychiatrist had to say so don't tell me "don't ask us ask the doctor"
I have depression with generalized anxiety and depresonalization.
Which in your opinion is better?
Citalopram = Celexa
Escitalopram = Lexapro, Cipralex
they are both SSRI's.
thx for the answers.
A: I had the same thing minus depersonalization (except for when I would experience it as a result of a full blown panic attack) and I took 20mg Celexa once daily. I found it worked initially... for the first 2-3 months, but after that I started to revert back to how I felt ie depression, however my anxiety didn't return.
7 months after starting it I stopped by myself gradually, but my anxiety has come back, and I have found that my depression seems to have manifested itself by me having an extremely bad temper to the point of being violent...
I DO think it is worth it to give Celexa a try as it is one of the least 'intense' meds so to speak, and I had barely any side effects. Dry mouth and trouble getting to sleep was the worst of it.
Good luck, and feel better soon.
Q: Doc says i've got depression, gives me escitalopram, but i still have problems. Now what?
I've been taking it since november 2007 with 1.5tabs from this month onwards. But i still don't have fun in anything, i can't concentrate, can't have interest in anything,i still have fights and never in a way like normal people i come back to my original self.
A: Tell your Dr. The medication may not be working for you the way it is supposed to, he may have to change your medication. Be honest with him about how you feel. There is no way he will know if you don't tell him. Too many people are afraid to tell Drs. that meds aren't working because of making them mad. They don't get mad, they may say it should be working but be insistant and say maybe it should be but it isn't and I need something that will.
