Q: fluoxetine?
does anybody know if fluoxetine causes insomnia?
because i want to take 10 mg of fluoxetine before going to bed, should i take it or not?
A: I take it in the morning and I'm fine with it then. I think fluoxetine is supposed to be taken in the morning tho, I know there are other kinds of meds if u want a good nites sleep
Q: Fluoxetine?
i recently got perscribed fluoxetine for anxiety and panic attacks. i took my first pill yesterday and it made it so i constantly had rapid eye movement. is this normal and will all these side effects go away after time?
A: Yes, probably so, because tolerance is built over time to sympathomimetic drugs like fluoxetine, and the twitching you're experiencing is due to a high sympathetic activity from the nervous system (which means the drug is working), which your body is not accustomed to. Your body should adjust over time.
Q: What is the typical adult dose of fluoxetine?
I had been taking 20mg of fluoxetine for really bad anxiety and got it bumped up to 30mg. It's been about 4 weeks on the upped dose and I'm seeing improvement, but I still have frequent bouts of anxiety.
What is the normal adult dose of fluoxetine? Should I talk to my doctor about getting the dosage raised again? I know fluoxetine takes the longest to work out of the SSRIs so maybe I should wait a little longer....
Thanks!
A: The normal dose of fluoxetine is 20mg but some people take 40mg or 60mg.
Sertraline is better for anxiety in most cases.
Q: What are the functional groups and chiral centres in a molecule of fluoxetine?
In the molecule fluoxetine C17H18F3NO, what are the functional groups and chiral centres, and if someone could tell me what a chiral centre is that'd be great?
also are both the carbon rings called benzene rings or would you refer to one or both of them as Pheynl groups?
A: look for the strusture at following link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prozac
etheral oxygen and amide groups are present. the C atom having all the four groups different form each othe, is called chiral C. and i think only one carbon [attached to O, benzene ring, other CH2 and H(not shown)] is chiral, c if u can find another.
Q: How long does it take for fluoxetine to get out of breastmilk?
I am re-lactating after 4 weeks of not breast feeding. i have been on fluoxetine for about three weeks, but changing to zoloft so i can give breastfeeding another go. how long will it take to get the fluoxetine out of the breastmilk?
A: Fluoxetine is Pregnancy Category C, so maybe it could be harmful for the child... And if there is even i slight risk of that you should ask a certified health care practitioner.
Q: What are the side effects of Fluoxetine?
Ive been on anti depressants for a while and have just got given Fluoxetine and I know side effects are rare but just wondered what they were? Any info would be great thanks.
A: feeling sleepy and stomach upset
Q: Difference between fluoxetine hydrocholoride and cipralex escitaloram?
My doctor has changed my prescription from Fluoxetine Hydrochlorde to Cipralex Escitaloram. What is the difference between each other? Which one am I better off taking? What does the one medication does, what the other doesn't and visa versa?
A: Fluoxetine Hydrochloride is the generic for Prozac. Escitalopram Hydrochloride is the generic for Lexapro.
They both belong to the same category of medication - SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor).
It's hard to say which you would be better off taking because everybody is different. No one can predict which will work better for you. Do you know why he changed your prescription?
Prozac typically has more side effects (jitteriness, insomnia, sexual side effects) and it was the first SSRI on the market. Lexapro (escitalopram) is chemically related to Celexa (citalopram), which is another SSRI.
Lexapro has fewer side effects. I'm wondering if you had told the doc that you were having side effects? Or if your depression returned, prompting a change in medication?
The good news is that both come in the generic form and are cheap as hell.
Also, a "change of scenery" can sometimes be a good thing, even for our brains!
Call your doctor and ask those questions. The doc may have a specific reason for switching you - all anyone on here can do is speculate. Good luck!
Q: What exactly does fluoxetine do? Does it stop absorption of serotonin, or supplies it or what?
Also, is fluoxetine addictive or hard to wean off from?
A: It is an ssri.. meaning a seratonin reuptake inhibitor.. It simply keeps your available seratonin available.. It is not addictive.. and as far as weaning off the stuff.. well it's different for everyone.. just do a search engine of your choice for either fluoxetine.. or Prozac, same thing.. you will get the latest and greatest on the subject from any of the sites
Q: Is it safe to be on Citalopram and Fluoxetine at the same time?
My doctor has prescribed both for me, Fluoxetine after breakfast and Citalopram after dinner. Does anybody have information in this regard? Thanks in advance.
A: Call the National Poison Center and they can answer that question number is 1-800-222-1222 or call a Medical Doctor or ER.
Q: Is it safe to take a Dramamine after taking Fluoxetine?
I take Fluoxetine daily for depression. Since I have been taking the 20 mg, I have felt dizzy when in cars.
So I was wondering, is it ok to take a Dramamine after taking a Fluoxetine?
A: Per ePocrates, yes, it's safe.
Double checking and looking at the side effects, you should be ok, though you might find yourself very drowsy.
That being said, before taking any medication you should check with your doctor. Fluoxetine has a lot of potentially serious side effects (including black box warnings) and a narrow therapeutic range. Dramamine could interfere with its effectiveness.
Q: What is the long term effects of antidepressants? (Fluoxetine) and how long is to long?
I have been on Fluoxetine, its like Prozac for about 3 years, my worries?
- have i been on it too long (when i try to get off it i become SUPER depressed)?
-what are the long term affects? (lately Iv been feeling down) :(
thank you so much!
A: Talk with your doctors but most importantly, do the reading and research your self. There is a book, written by the psychiatrist who first used this drug so successfully, it's called
LISTENING TO PROZAK
I found the book to be fascinating, but a little hard to read, technical, I had to look a few things up, but it's excellent and may help you understand what you are looking for.
Q: Has anyone experienced unusual bruising whilst taking fluoxetine?
I seem to be bruising really easily recently, and am wondering if this could be a side effect of fluoxetine. I have read through the side effects on the patient instructions, but it is not listed. I am currently taking 60mg.
A: SNAP
they just double my dose & have had 2 bruises come out of nowhere one big one on my leg & one on my arm....i'm only on 40mg a day tho
Q: How Much Fluoxetine does it take to overdose?
How Much Fluoxetine does it take to overdose?
A: i'm not sure exactly how much. but you'll feel the side effects of SSRI syndrome... and it's not fun!! you'll experience these effects if you have excess serotonin in your system.
some adverse effects are... mental confusion, hypomania, agitation, headache, shivering, sweating, fever, hypertension, tachycardia, nausea, and diarrhea.
Q: Is it normal to prescribe a high dose of fluoxetine for more than 9 years?
that`s what my psichiatrist prescribed for dysthimia, but for months now I`ve been suffering many symptons (weakness, asthenia, etc) for which the doctors don`t find a cause yet. Could all be because of the 60 mg of fluoxetine per day taken for over ten years?I`, n in danger of intoxication?
A: You could probably get the best answer to your question from your pharmacist who prescribes your medication. He is the expert and actually knows more about medications than your psychiatrist or doctor<
Q: Will consuming fluoxetine makes you ehave like a zombie?
I finally took courage today and step into the doc's office. He gave me fluoxetine 20 mg and wants to monitor me in 2 weeks time. I dunno what these pills are suppose to do for you, it cldnt be that miraculous rite? Sorry a bit of doubt here.
Will they cause a person to be so calm and zombie like? Any other info, pls do share. I do appreciate it thanks.
A: No, it just feels like that for the first couple of weeks.
If it lasts longer than that, ask your doc if he can prescribe Wellbutrin(as long as you don't have a seizure disorder, in which case you should not take it!) It produces more of a stimulating type of feeling.
I prefer Prozac, which is simply a brand name for fluoxetine, because it helps with depression and anxiety. I can not take any of the benzodiazapines(Valium,Ativan,Xanax, Klonopin, Serax, termazepam, librium) because they are really addictive and short lasting.
Some people can handle the temptation, but I am not one of them. You may be able to take Wellbutrin and have an as needed(they call it PRN) prescription for one of the benzo's. Time will tell.
This is a crappy time in your life for you to have to wait a long time to feel the results, when you are depressed it sometimes seems pointless to do anything, but you have to do it. You will feel a lot better, but it may take a few months to get you on the right medicine for you.
And, Prozac and all the other SSRI's are miraculous to those of us who have gotten well.
Hang in there and wait it out the best that you can. It will be wonderful to be happy, I promise!!!!!!!!!!
