Q: venlafaxine?
i have only been taking this for just over a week and today i fekt it was beggining to work in relation to me feeling quiete happy and life was in perspective but when i feel happy, shortly after i feel really low.
i dont know if this is because i have only just started and the depsression will decrease over time or is this a side effect that happens with venlafaxine because i heard this isnt good for bipolar.
im on 75mg
A: Everyone reacts differently to antidepressants. That is why sometimes it may take some time to find one that is suitable and I hope that Venlafaxine works for you. Give it time, it takes a few weeks for the medication to really work properly. I know how horrible it is to feel so low and depressed.
I have been on Venlafaxine now for about 6 months. It was about the third antidepressant that I had been prescribed but it was the one that was successful. I felt much better after only a few weeks on it. I am on 37.5mg twice a day.
I don't know if this is suitable for bipolar disorder but I'm sure your doctor would not have prescribed Venlafaxine if it was not suitable and if you have that condition.
The side effects that I suffer from are palpitations - unpleasant but better than being depressed and I have also put on some weight but again better than being depressed.
I would recommend that you continue taking the medication, even when you start to feel better, and don't stop without consulting your doctor.
If your mood continues to swing between high and low after taking Venlafaxine for a few weeks I would go back to the doctor and let him know.
75 mg is not a very high dose at all and your doctor may want to increase this if you still get times when you feel low.
I hope that you will improve. Hang on in there - things do get better.
Q: how many hours after taking Venlafaxine XR would i noticed the effects of the drug wearing off?
i mean when would my depressive symptoms feel worse?
i take 375mg of venlafaxine XR per day.
A: This is some real technical reading so read it slow.
http://www.realmentalhealth.com/medications/effexor.asp
Effexor XR actually stays in your system for quit a long time. Depending on how long you have taken it will determine how strong the withdrawal effects will be.
Q: What would be the most expected consequence of taking 600 mg of venlafaxine?
Not expecting very theoretical answers here , citated from various med-journals who test drugs on rats. Simply and strait-forward, from someone who know about pharmacology and psychoactive substances. I took 350 mg of venlafaxine (Effexor) for some 3 months now (the maximum recomended dosage according to the manufacturer. What would be expected to eventually happen if i would experiment one day with a 600 or 700 mg dose. Thank you .
A: First off, you shouldn't be experimenting with high doses of medication. Effexor is probably not lethal at that dosage, but it would cause numerous problems. The site I've linked has some known symptoms of vanlafaxine overdosing.
Q: how many hours after taking Venlafaxine XR does the withdrawal symptoms start?
i take 375mg of venlafaxine Xr per day.
i know you don't nessasarily get withdrawal symptoms.
A: If you have been taking them for a long period of time you will get actual withdrawals after about 36 hours after your last dose. I took them so I know exactly how it feels and it is no good. You have to taper off the stuff. Never stop abruptly.

Q: My mom started taking Venlafaxine HCL which is a generic version of Effexor?
She is experiencing dizzyness, tiredness, blurred vision, a little nausea, and loss of appetite. How long will these side effects last? Also, she was on Effexor for a while, but she stopped taking them for months, and now she just started taking the Venlafaxine HCL. How will this effect her? How long will it take for the pills to work?
A: Some can take two weeks while others can take up to six weeks. Look it up on line and you will know for sure.
Q: Is it possible to stop taking venlafaxine cold turkey?
Ive been taking venlafaxine for about 2 years but I would like to stop taking it. If i stop taking it cold turkey will 1. will i be able too and 2. will i end up in the er?
A: It's very dangerous. You must wean yourself off of it slowly, as directed.
I'll never forget the agony on the father's face who was interviewed from prison pleading people not to do this very thing. He tried it with Paxil and ended up choking his son to death.
Quitting Venlafaxine can be like quitting heroin.
Q: Has anyone been pregnant or is pregnant and taking venlafaxine?
How did the pregnancy go? How is the health of your baby? Any information on this will be appreciated. I'm taking venlafaxine (225mg) and want to have another baby but am unable to go off the medication.
A: you'd best ask your doctor. they made try you on a different medication or decide that the benefits outweigh the risk. do some research on your meds, it might even list the possible risks in your pharmacy insert.
Q: Venlafaxine - is anyone on here taking it? What side effects did you get and how bad were they?
Ive just been prescribed venlafaxine for depression so would like to know a bit more about it and what side effects to expect.
A: Hi i've been on and off it for 2 years,
Firstly what form is it in,is it modified release or is it a small white tablet.
What strenght is it in mgs.
Can you add some more details please.
For me 37.5 mgs [little white one] made me a sick as a dog,I'd feel sick-Nauseous and extremely tired.
75 mgs modified release is the capsule.
It gives you the 'jitters' but they wear off after a few week.Do not drive within the first week-They make you grind your teeth and you can't sleep.
After 4 weeks, you will feel better and gain some energy and strength. They are brill after a few weeks.
A word of advice-Never ever stop suddenly taling Venlaflaxine. You will be ill, sick and almost delireous. You will have the worst 72 hours ever with severe depression. You have to be weaned off it slowley by your GP reducing the dose.
Good luck.
Q: if i accidentally forgot to take my venlafaxine how long would it take for me to notice the effects?
Venlafaxine Half life =
5 ± 2 hours (parent compound)
11 ± 2 hours (active metabolite)
so how long would it take to feel the effects if i forgot to take it?
[btw i'm only asking this cause i do tend to forget taking pills somtimes]
i just found out the venlafaxine i take is an extended life one :s
i've only recently started 150mg.
A: I also take an anti depressant daily. Everymorning without fail. If you miss a dose, and you remember later in the day, you can take it. Never double a dose the next day.
I keep my meds in a pill container, in my purse, and I know what each pill is. Timing is important and my morning starts about noon.I work evening shift. On days I sleep late, I take within an hour of waking up.
I think you would have to forget to take them a few days before any effects show. I know with Elavil, which I stupidly quit on my own. Within about 3 days, I was dizzy, spaced out, and had a hard time going down the stairs. I kept thinking I was falling.
I saw my Doctor and he weaned me off, and put me on Prozac, which I have been on for 5 years. I don't know what Prozac does, but it has kept me up and moving and working steady now for years.
Q: What is (or) Is there a substitute for Novo Venlafaxine?
Someone i know has been taking Novo Venlafaxine for a while and she had stopped taking them for a while now. She is going through a major withdrawl and she wants a substitute that makes her want to stop taking them but still satisfies her. Please someone help and answer as soon as possible if you know the answer! And we are aware of the side effects we just really want a substitute. If it can be a non-drug that is better but if it is a drug that is still ok. Thank You!
A: i take nova mix30 its a mix of fast and slow insuline and u only hav to inject wice a day before breakfast and dinner iv been on it since i was diagnosed which was about 4yrs ago and there no sideaffects tht i know of
Q: How long does venlafaxine withdrawal last after discontinuation?
I discontinued my effexor from 75mg to 0mg on Monday night (at my doctor's advice) - I've been feeling really agitated, getting no sleep and getting headaches. I know the drug has a short half-life, but how long until these symptoms go?
A: I'd give it about a week, give or take, it's different for everyone. Depends on age, health status, how long on it, etc.etc. If it lasts much longer than 5-7 days I'd be seeing the doc again. But do give your brain and body time to readjust. Good luck!
Q: How to deal with Venlafaxine side effects?
I'm a veteran of the Iraq war and was diagnosed with PTSD. I have only been taking the drug for about a month now. I immediately noticed extreme fatigue and a decrease in my sex drive. I'm having a hard time dealing with the effects. For one, i'm a truck driver , and two, i have a very active sex life. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
A: It can take 4 weeks or sometimes a bit longer for the medication to get into your system and start working properly, so it might be worth waiting another week or so and seeing if things improve.
That said, your side effects must be interfering with your work, so I would go back and talk to your GP. Explain the problems you are having and ask if there is an alternative you can take which doesn't cause fatigue.
As someone else has said, side effects will be different in each person taking the medication, so the best advice would be from your GP.
Hope this helps.
Take care and good luck.
Q: how many hours is the safe time limit between taking each dose of 375mg Venlafaxine XR?
i obviously take 375mg of Venlafaxine XR per day.
i just want to make sure i don't take them too close to each other.
i take my pills anywhere between 8am -> 6pm.
when i take them depends on:
if i'm at home or going out...when/if/how long i sleep...if i forget to take them.
A: have a set time each day to do it as this optimises the dose u take
Q: Is it safe to suddenly stop taking Carbamazepine 800mg and Venlafaxine 150mg?
Being taken for a working diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder (not very severe form), patient's symptoms are more like mild BPD.
A: Please taper off your meds if that is your choice. Don't stop suddenly. Why would you want to get off meds? Is it not working or what? I am bipolar, and let me tell you, stopping meds immediately could cause you to flip out.
