Donating shares

Whether you want to donate a large number of shares or a small numbers of shares that are uneconomic to sell, HHMT can benefit.
Large value shares
There are now generous tax incentives for both individuals and companies to give shares to charities such as HHMT, allowing you to claim income tax (or corporation tax) relief on the value of most shares and securities donated. They are also exempt from capital gains tax.
This means you can claim tax relief equal to the market value of the shares on the day the gift is made. The relief is against the donor's income tax for that year. For example, if you give HHMT £1,000 worth of shares, and are a higher rate tax payer, you will pay £400 less income tax that year.
If you wish to donate shares to HHMT, then please get in touch with frances@hhmt.org or on 020 8238 7605.
Small value shares
There are very many people in the UK, who have tiny share holdings that are uneconomical to sell. The charity ShareGift collects these shares, and then makes donations to a range of charities, which have all been suggested by the supporters.
It's an easy process to donate shares, just download our Share Gift form, fill it in, and return it along with the appropriate share certificates to:

Payroll giving

Many employers operate payroll giving schemes, and if they don't, it's easy to set up, if you can persuade them of the value...
Give as you earn (payroll giving) is a tax-efficient way of making regular donations to HHMT. For us, it is direct and convenient, and allows us to plan ahead, knowing we have regular contributions.
How it works
If you wish to donate £10 a month then:
If you pay tax at 22% rate, then you will only pay £7.80.
If you pay tax at 40% rate, then you will only pay £6.00.
Meanwhile HHMT benefits from receiving the full £10 as the tax man makes up the difference!
All you need to do is decide how much you would like to give each pay day, complete the Give as you earn form and return it to:
